Founded in 1981 by Adrie Groeneweg in Hull, Iowa, Pizza Ranch is saddling up for the future, giving every guest a legendary experience at over 180 locations in 13 states across the mid-Western US.  Pizza Ranch is known by their customers for their “It’s Our Famous, Buffet Your Way” which boasts a wide variety of tasty options including: pizza, chicken, potatoes, salads, and delectable desserts.

Back at the Sioux Center Ranch, we had a chance to meet with the manager, Spencer Groeneweg, to learn what makes Pizza Ranch stand out. “A big thing that sets us apart is our culture, and how our vision and mission statements points to a bigger cause than Pizza Ranch.” says Groeneweg.  Integral to the communities they serve, Pizza Ranch’s Community Impact Fundraising Events make it easy for local schools and charities to raise money by having their members come in and help serve the guests, earning a percentage of the sales and/or donations from the evening. On a global scale, Pizza Ranch also makes an impact with their Coffee Partnership Program, assisting schools in Southern Ethiopia.

Menu Labeling: Will you be ready for the new Dec. 1 deadline?

The Food and Drug Administration menu-labeling regulations for chain restaurants, originally slated to take effect late last year, are now slated to take effect December 1.

In the FDA’s own words, the regulations address an epidemic:

More than two thirds of adults and about a third of children in the United States are overweight or obese. Overconsumption of calories is one of the primary risk factors for overweight and obesity. About half of consumers' annual food dollars are spent on, and a third of total calories come from, foods prepared outside the home, including foods from restaurants and similar retail food establishments. Many people do not know, or underestimate, the calorie and nutrient content of these foods.

Customer of the Month: Travis Miller, Cottage Inn Pizza

Since opening the first restaurant to serve pizza in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1948, Cottage Inn Pizza has grown to more than 55 Midwest locations. Famous for their pizza, Cottage Inn also serves a diverse menu of Italian and Greek dishes.

This week, we profile customer of the month Travis Miller. Miller started his Cottage Inn career as a driver in 2013, and was promoted to a management position in Corporate Accounting. The chain’s rapid growth required new systems and IT support, and facilitated a transition for Travis. Today, Travis is the Technical & Financial Operations Manager for Cottage Inn Management.

The first SpeedLine system was installed in Cottage Inn in 2008, and Cottage Inn named SpeedLine as the exclusive POS provider for corporate and new franchise locations in 2013.

Winner of Canada’s Chef of the Year in 2008 and Canada’s Best Pizza in 2012, Two Guys and a Pizza Place owner, Cory Medd, knows a thing or two about pizza.

In 2002, Cory and a friend dove head first into the restaurant business, purchasing a belly-up pizzeria on a whim. A year and half later, when his friend went on to film school, Cory bought out his share. With almost no experience in the industry, Cory relied on gut instinct, an acute business sense, drive, and eventually a SpeedLine point of sale system. Two Guys and a Pizza Place has been celebrating success ever since.

Diana made a name for herself as a two-time winner of the title of Canada’s Top Pizza Chef (an achievement that earned her the moniker “Canada’s Pizza Queen” in the media). Her growing reputation earned her a cover story in PMQ Magazine, stints as a competitor and judge at the International Pizza Olympics (and coach of the Canadian Pizza Team), and a feature on the Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here. She also served as a director of the Canadian Restaurant and Food services Association.
