Managing your Brand Reputation: Using Google Alerts

Posted by Tricia Hoy on Sat, Nov 23, 2013 @ 11:11 AM

Whether you invest in it or not, your brand has a life online. Beyond your own web site, people are reading and talking about your brand on Yelp, Urban Spoon, Google Places, and others. They are sharing their opinions on Facebook and Twitter and Foursquare. They may even be reviewing your food and service in their own blogs and other social networking sites.

That’s exciting—because it opens up so many new ways for your guests to market your restaurant for you. It’s a new era of word of mouth marketing.

But it also means that those conversations—both the good and the bad—can take on a life of their own. Online raves and flames spread fast.

So a new skill in restaurant marketing today is brand monitoring. It’s listening. And it’s easier to do than you might think.

Google Alerts is probably the easiest way to track what people are saying about you and your restaurant online. It’s totally free, and simple to set up. In just minutes, you can arrange to have emails sent to you daily, weekly, or instantly whenever Google finds a mention of your restaurant online.

Setting Delivery Fees: Best Practices in Defining Zones

Posted by Tricia Hoy on Sat, Nov 23, 2013 @ 11:11 AM

With the cost of fuel and insurance, most pizza and delivery operations today charge delivery fees to offset costs, and most find that customers are willing to pay the extra charge to continue enjoying the convenience of home delivery. Setting fees appropriately however, can be challenging. In the new release of SpeedLine 7, defining zones to set delivery fees accurately is easier than ever.

Top 5 Reasons POS Support is Vital to Your Restaurant Business

Posted by Tricia Hoy on Sat, Nov 23, 2013 @ 10:11 AM

It’s the dinner rush, and your phone lines are jammed: What do you do when your point of sale system goes down? Thankfully, system outages are uncommon, but doesn’t Murphy’s Law seem to apply here? If a power outage, aging hard drive giving up the ghost, or a simple user error is going to take down a system, chances are it won’t happen at a good time. And without support from your POS vendor, getting back up and running can be difficult and time-consuming.

Smart Operators: Managing Inventory to Avoid Theft and Spoilage in Your Pizza Restaurant.

Posted by Tricia Hoy on Sat, Nov 23, 2013 @ 10:11 AM

Waste and theft come directly off your bottom line, and both are hard to manage without the proper tools in place. The right software can identify where loss is occurring in your restaurant so you can take action. The problem operators find is that most software can’t track inventory usage for create-your-own pizzas.

Every week, a good portion of your cash outlay is for food and supplies. Next to labor, inventory makes up the bulk of your regular expenses. Stock that doesn’t get accounted for is your ‘shrinkage’: lost to theft or spoilage. With inventory software, you can eliminate guesswork, gain new control over the stock on your shelves and in your cooler and freezer, and save potentially thousands of dollars a year.

Technology Drivers for Efficient Restaurant Delivery Services

Posted by Jennifer Wiebe on Sat, Nov 23, 2013 @ 10:11 AM

In a world where there are soon to be more smart phones than people, mapping and navigation apps are an everyday part of our lives. We’re finding new ways to understand the world around us through maps: with mashups that let us explore real estate listings in a map, street and satellite views of our neighborhoods, and data maps that help us view complex topics in new ways.

In the world of pizza delivery, map technology is changing the way we dispatch drivers, control delivery costs and charges, and manage delivery performance.

One Thing You’re Probably Not Using in Your Delivery POS—and Three Ways It’s Costing You

Posted by Jennifer Wiebe on Sat, Nov 23, 2013 @ 09:11 AM

Chances are, your delivery POS has a built-in scheduling tool. And from what I hear from restaurant operators, you’re probably not using it.

Maybe you’re not sure how. It’s different: which means it probably seems more complicated than the method you’ve been using for years. Or maybe it lacks some particular feature. And certainly, scheduling with your POS is a skill that takes a little time to learn.
